Summer Style with Dapper Black Box™ - July Edition

At Geo's Table we believe in the uplifting and supporting those changing the game in our community. Brunch Style is part two of the Geo’s Table “Summer Style”  collaboration  with the trailblazing, Black-owned subscription service Dapper Black Box.

Each month subscribers receive a carefully curated selection of men's accessories, grooming products and other tokens designed for the style conscious gentleman. The best part, every month the products featured are made with love by black entrepreneurs and businesses.

As a bow-tie fanatic this month’s box included quite the surprise an Oversized Black Satin Bow-Tie  & Pocket Square by Tie Fetish.  Sleek, modern with just a touch of flare, it’s the perfect accessory for a summer black tie wedding or in my case, a fancy brunch in Rittenhouse Square.

In addition to the products from Tie Fetish, this month's box also included Coral Oral Toothbrushes and a BLK Proverbs Grab Bag.

Style Inspiration for July

Sunday Brunch followed by an epic Sunday Funday is my favorite way to end the weekend and energize myself for the week ahead. Armed with the confidence only an oversized bow tie paired with some bright pastel colors can bring - I stepped out on the town. Although the rain tried to damper our plans we were successful in our adventures for the day.

My photographer, Stacey (@phillystory on Instagram) and I spent the day traveling to some of the most photogenic spots in Rittenhouse Square - followed by a celebratory meal at the hottest new brunch spot: Harper's Garden.

Over the course of the summer, I will be collaborating with Dapper Black Box™ to present you with some tips and fashion inspiration to keep you "dapper" all summer long.    First up, is the June's Dapper Black Box™, made in honor of a former member of the Texas Legislature, Al Edwards. This month's box included a Blue Gingham Check Neck-Tie and matching Pocket Square by Jay Kirby Ties, Summer Socks by Harrison Blake  and a Chimere Bump Control Cleansing Bar.

Style Inspiration for June

There's a certain finesse needed to pull-off a tie in the summer, but after falling love with in the Blue Gingham Check Neck-Tie and matching Pocket Square by Jay Kirby, I was up for the challenge.  Pulling some more formal summer staples from my closet, and being willing to get a little adventurous with patterns, I was able to pull off not just one but two outfits! These ensembles are perfect for a weekend brunch, day party or a more casual summer wedding.

All photos were taken by my good friend, Stacey. Check out some of her awesome photography on her instagram: @phillystory .

GT Getaways: St. Louis

On my latest getaway, I took a weekend trip to St. Louis, MO. While I have been to St. Louis several times before for work, this time was a completely different experience. My favorite way to experience a city is through the eyes of a dear friend who lives or was raised there. It dives a little deeper than the notion of “seeing it like a local,” and instead gives you a little context on how food and culture shape the personality of some of the people you love the most.

In a city known for its unmatched hospitality and charm, I was able to eat, drink, and bask in all the wonders of this amazing city. The warm embraced I received from the people of St. Louis will never be forgotten and there are now pieces of my heart scattered all over city. Here’s some flicks and just a few of my faves from the weekend.

My Top Picks

1. Uncle Bill's Pancakes and Dinner House

A St. Louis breakfast spot that locals swear by! With menu options galore and an empty tummy in tote - you will leave with a full belly and a warm heart.

My pick: The Crepes Paree

2. Snarf's Sandwiches

A local sandwich chain with a limited number of locations in Missouri, Illinois, Colorado and Texas. With fresh and filing sandwiches, my inaugural visit to Snarf left me begging for more.

My pick: The Turkey & Swiss Cheese

3. Rosalitas Cantina

Located in Downtown St. Louis, Rosalitas Cantina is vibrant and festive offering a menu of amazing St. Louis style Tex-Mex. As an added bonus the Margaritas are extra strong margaritas, and the chips and salsa are endless.

My picks: The Shrimp Tacos and Fried Cheesecake

4. The Grove Neighborhood

A progressive neighborhood with buzz-worthy nightlife and an eclectic crowd, you are sure to have a blast dancing the night away at Rehab or having some late night Ice Cream Martini at The Fountain on Locust.  For boozier drinks of the frozen variety take a trip to Tropical Liqueurs and be sure to grab some authentic "street meat" at their indoor food truck Guerrilla Streetfood .

My Picks: The Tiger Paw Slushee (Tropical Liqueurs) and The Bagnet Kare Kare Po' Boy (Guerrilla St. Louis)

5. Gourmet Soul There is nothing like a home cooked meal that touches the soul and Gourmet Soul has this down to a science. Enjoy a solid selection of soul food that is fresh, fried and will leave you satisfied!

My picks: Fried Fish and Sweet Potatoes

GT Tips: HEAT-UP your Housewarming!

In August, Mark, myself and our doggie daughter, Hilde,  moved into a new apartment.  While  apartment hunting, we sought out places that would allow us the space to entertain. When we stepped into an industrial-style loft with large windows, exposed brick and a spacious open layout, we instantly fell in love!

This past Saturday, after much anticipation Mark and I hosted a "Stock the Bar Housewarming Party." The premise was simple, in lieu of a formal housewarming gift, we asked friends to bring a bottle of wine or their favorite libation. We provided a spread of appetizers and desserts as well as a signature cocktail.

Our guests had a wonderful time chatting over food and drinks, and we were overwhelmed with gratitude for the fellowship, love and gifts!

Reflecting on this past weekend and the heightened stress that ensued the days prior to the event, I wanted to give you some quick tips to keep in mind if you wish to warm your new home in style.

5 Tips to HEAT UP your Housewarming

  1. Plan EARLY. Choose a date at least two months in advance and commit. Once the date is on the calendar all others details will begin to fall into place!

  2. Make a GREAT first impression. Whether you choose to  invite guests by snail-mail, electronically or by creating a Facebook event, put some effort into the invite.  Whatever your fancy, some great ideas can be found on Etsy.

  3. Pick a theme that WOWS. Combining two households into one, Mark and I weren't in need of any household items. A quick Google search returned tons of ideas for "unconventional" housewarming parties. Pick a theme that speaks to you, your guests will appreciate that!

  4. Curate an ECLECTIC menu.  Your guests may be vegans, meat-Lovers or  even taking a pass at eating Gluten-Free? It's important to have options for every type of food lover. If you're struggling to come up with dishes check out my  Pinterest board for some help!

  5. THANK the guests! The party is over, the guests have left, but you have one more step before you can record this shindig in the history books. Be sure to thank the guests for coming out and supporting you. While a small gesture, thank you cards can definitely leave a lasting impression.
